“‘We have to,’ was his reply.”
“I said, ‘How is that?’”
“‘You know as well as I do,’ said he.”

Besides having these validating quotes from the early brethren, we are also being taught about power in the priesthood today. President Boyd K. Packer taught that the saints need to increase in this power. A whole chapter is dedicated to this topic in the Relief Society publication of Daughters In My Kingdom. President Russell M. Nelson speaks often of this power in his general conference addresses lately. The first chapter in my second book, An LDS Approach to Energy Healing, quotes various LDS authorities on the topic of power in the priesthood. When we study the scriptures as well as our leader's words today, we better understand various principles God tells us are used in healing.
It has been my experience that all too often, people making claims about alternative forms of healing being 'misguided' have not done much investigating into the principles used in these methods. People naturally fear what they do not understand. The Bible reminds us, "He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him" (Proverbs 18:13). It was my own case of not understanding alternative healing principles -- when the Holy Spirit introduced me to them-- that caused me to study them in depth. After years of research on whether there is religious validation for principles used in alternative medicine, I confidently give my witness that God is revealing healing truths and technologies to man that fit with gospel principles. I share this witness from "learn[ing] by study and also by faith."
Let me share an example involving women and casting out evil. My son and I had a very interesting learning experience together. A client who had experienced the horrors of on-going ritual abuse called me a few days after clearing away some of the 'works of darkness' that had been put upon her by purposeful, evil intent. We did this by using both Rapid Eye Technology and Deep Emotion Release over the phone. Together, we also united our faith as I commanded evil spirits and evil devices of the adversary to leave her, her home and anywhere around her in the name of Jesus Christ. The woman exercised her faith by also commanding out with her words. She was immensely grateful for this help. She texted me a couple of days later saying, "Miracles keep happening for me. This is deliverance."
A few days later, the same woman phoned again from out of state declaring that she suddenly felt like she was possibly having a heart attack. She wondered if she needed to go to the emergency room. She explained that she didn't want to do that because the medical field had been baffled many times in the past when she felt similar, sudden, strange occurrences in her body. I told her that if she felt she should go to the emergency room, she should do just that. I also told her that a quiet feeling from the Spirit was telling me there was something we could do. After a silent prayer in my heart to fill with the Light of Christ and ask for power over Satan, I audibly commanded evil and unclean spirits and 'darkness' (see Doctrine and Covenants section 50) to come out of her in the name of Jesus Christ. The woman began feeling much better and the urgency in her voice calmed down. We were both relieved and grateful to the Lord for his grace and mercy, knowing that it is only because of Him that any relief comes.
I supposed our conversation would shortly be over when this faithful woman suddenly declared that she felt more coming up in her body to be released. In an urgent, pleading voice she said she hadn't been able to get a phone call through to her husband while at his work. She pleaded, "There is even more coming!" It surprised me how quickly this confident woman had turned to voicing childlike pleas for help. I felt it was another layer of hidden darkness exposed so that she could be released from it. Having studied the words of prophets and apostles on binding Satan, I understood this.
I glanced to my right and saw my son who held the Aaronic Priesthood listening to this exchange as we drove down the interstate. I had parked the vehicle by now and said to him, "Are you willing to use your priesthood and exercise your faith on behalf of this woman?" He said, "Sure, mom!" He raised his right arm to the square and said, "In the name of Jesus Christ and by the power of the priesthood that I hold, I command demons, devils, evil and unclean spirits to come out of you and anywhere around you. I command you to leave her blood, body and energy fields." He was confident, having said these words for himself on many occasions over the years as he dealt with Lyme Disease and co-infections. Then he looked at me with pleading eyes -- as if to ask, "I know I need to ask for more, what might that be?" I reminded him that our Naturopathic Doctor had taught us to cast out "Repetitive, pervasive data. Negative cell memory." He commanded that out as well as dark cords and connections and "hidden darkness" that we had learned about from reading Doctrine and Covenants section 123. He ended with prayerful words to Heavenly Father saying, "Father, this is what we know how to do at this moment," asking the Lord to "please fill in the gaps and make up the difference that all may be blessed."
What happened next was unexpected. We heard them leaving! There were audible static-like noises as well as garbled sounds. My son was so surprised by the experience that he asked the woman over the phone if she heard the noises, also. "Oh yes!" she said, "That is what 'they' sound like when my husband gives me a priesthood blessing and they leave." The woman felt instantly better and thanked the Lord out loud for his goodness, giving all praise and glory to Him. We were all three full of awe and gratitude to God - which we freely voiced aloud.
I was so happy that my son had been blessed to have such a powerful learning opportunity. When Christ had similar experiences, the New Testament witnesses that those who did not understand accused Him of working by the devil. Such accusations against humble people doing God's work continue today.
After this faith-building experience, I was in for another surprise the following Sunday. The spirit began prompting me before church to bear testimony about this experience in my ward's fast and testimony meeting. My heart was willing because of numerous experiences where I have seen my powerful Savior intervene similarly for His other abused children. However, my 'flesh' stood in trepidation. Casting out evil spirits is a subject that is hardly ever approached by the membership of the church. I wrote two chapters each on this subject in both of my books but it is not a subject openly discussed at church meetings.
I was visibly nervous to bring this subject up in testimony meeting, but I was obedient to the spirit. I told a simpler version of the story and testified that God's priesthood power is on the earth, that His power works - even at a distance, and that women can indeed exercise faith to cast out evil spirits. I gave my witness that God lives, that we are led by a prophet today and that the Book of Mormon is true. I bore my witness that prayers are answered and that God restored priesthood power to the earth through Joseph Smith.
I hope you enjoy this terrific paper that Brother Gillespie emailed to me and generously gave me permission to share. I pray that you can find your own answers and discern what is true. I believe we can learn to bind Satan by studying and following the words of prophets and apostles. I feel that doing so will help prepare the world for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ as well as the prophesied tribulation that is to precede that blessed event. God bless you in your search for truth.
P.S. I was grateful today, 9/29/17, to see a Facebook live video by Becky Edwards from the day previous that shared how her husband, a new bishop, attended an Area Training where President Boyd K. Packer (along with Elder Anderson) said to teach your members to cast out Satan like Moses did. Becky outlines 5 tactics the adversary uses, which she learned from Moses chapter 1, and how to cast him out in her live video. She is a brave warrior for Jesus Christ! https://www.facebook.com/becky.m.edwards.9?hc_ref=ARQLijYllZXDiV_3TrU6MC5NmecZbzZU4j4K0XCEb-FEZ-Bmjg9U1V19Y81Ha4EBY5A&pnref=story
P.P.S Today, 11/7/17, I came across a great piece again by Donna Eden, world-renown author of the best selling book Energy Medicine. She writes about her surprising encounter with dark forces while doing healing work once and offers terrific advice. Read her words at this link: http://www.innersource.net/em/1055-bringing-dark-forces-into-the-light.html?utm_source=November+2013+e-Letter&utm_campaign=NOV+2013+e-Letter&utm_medium=email
It is sad to me that some people judge a person to be 'of the devil' when they are only helping to bring light to dark places. The same thing happened to Jesus Christ when he healed people by casting evil spirits out of them. Those who did not understand accused Him of working by the power of the devil. "He casteth out devils through the power of Beelzebub the chief of the devils." See Matthew 12:22-37, Mark 3:22-27 and Luke 11:15-26 for more examples. Unfortunately, such accusations are still going on today. At least one commentator online is claiming that all so called energy healing is evil and of the devil because a facilitator spoke of casting them out of a person. Such commentators do not understand the scriptures!
I aim to choose to remain in gratitude and praise, although such things are happening. "But and if ye suffer for righteousness sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled. But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ. For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing." (1 Peter 3:15-17)
